A guard at Mysuru Central Prison has been suspected of recording a video of “abuse” against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and shared on social media.
Other sheriffs of police officer C. Mallik said the defendant Ward Kumar has been arrested by Betadapura police in Periyapatna, Mysoru area. He will question him on Wednesday and hand him over to the jurisdiction police.
Earlier, the chief principal of Mysuru Central Prison PS Ramesh said the Watchman was suspended for suspected misconduct. “He was suspended on Monday, awaiting department investigation,” he said. Warder, a former armed man, aged around 45, joined the service in 2018. After completing two years of training, he has served for about four years.
Meanwhile, the video drew anger from Congress workers, who gathered outside the Mysuru prison grounds on Tuesday and held protests.
M. Lakshman, spokesman for the protests of Karnataka Congress Committee (KPCC), said Congress workers gathered to express the “harm and pain” of the “obscene language” of the Watchmen to the Chief Minister.
Although prison authorities suspended the prison for “misconduct,” Mr. Lackshman said that was not enough. The spokesman said he should be registered and arrested immediately.
In a letter to the Deputy Police Department of Methuru City (Law and Order) Mr. Lakshman said that Ward recently mentioned Mr. Sidalamaya’s warning in a police officer in Bellagarve and then abused the strange chief minister.
He claimed that the Watchmen said something wrong to the Chief Minister’s wife, while also offending the Muslim community on social media platforms to provoke community riots. He said that in the five-minute video, the guard's “non-parliamentary” discourse not only violated Karnataka Civil Service (Conduct) Rules 2021, but also disrupted peace in society, urging police to register for FIR and arrest him.
Speaking to reporters outside the Mysuru prison site, Lakshman said the social media coverage of the defendant Watcher was filled with Pro-BJP and Pro-RSS positions. He claimed that his social media posts were designed to target Congress leaders, Muslims and Dalits.
A KPCC spokesman suspected that the BJP was such a person. Mr. Lackshman warned: “The language against the Chief Minister has greatly hurt Congress workers. Don't test our patience.”
Congressional workers also plan to hold a massive protest outside the Mysolu City Police Commissioner at 3 p.m. Wednesday to condemn the incident.
