Prime Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu presented the award to farmers at a meeting in Vijayawada on Wednesday.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asserted that whenever the TDP is in power, farmers benefit and double their income.
“Nevertheless, the agricultural sector contributes less to the gross state gross domestic product (GSDP). Nevertheless, given that farmers’ income is more important than state income, the state government is determined to provide fill to the agricultural and allied sectors,” Naidu said.
Mr Naidu said Andhra Pradesh ranked highest in agriculture. The state is known as “Annaporn”. But the services and industrial sectors also need to grow. In Telangana, 67% of revenue comes from the service industry, while in Andhra Pradeh, only 46%.
He said the dairy sector also grew at a CAGR of 22% under the TDP government. Currently, livestock generates revenue of Rs 1.69 crore, with as many as 4.2 million families depending on livestock.
The state’s livestock contribution to GSDP grew from Rs 43,127 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 91,633 crore in 2018-19, marking a CAGR of 21% during the TDP government term. He said that in 2019-24, the growth rate fell to 11%.
The Chief Minister said that in 2024-25, the livestock sector made Rs 1.69 crore. The target for 2025-26 is set at Rs 1.95 crore. Mr Naidu said the department will continue to continue its priority under the leadership of the NDA government.
Mr. Naidu emphasized the need to promote high-value horticultural crops, which yielded higher returns compared to traditional agriculture. Currently, 1.8 million hectares of horticulture currently generates Rs 1.55 million, while agriculture spreads over 5 million hectares brings Rs 5.5 million. “The aim is to increase the horticultural area to 3.6 million hectares. Therefore, the government plans to promote high-income horticultural crops, increasing the coverage from 18 to 3.6 million hectares,” he said.
Mr. Naidu outlined the government’s vision for the livestock and poultry industry and announced important reforms, including exemptions for property and house taxes on village-level dairy sheds. The government will simplify central planning online, review requirements for mobile veterinary ambulances, and integrate NREGs for work related to water and feed.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan will work closely with the department to design a viable roadmap. He added that the state will provide up to 1,000 solar power, provide lawn mowers for women and expand micro-irrigation to 2.5 million acres this year.
The program was organized jointly by the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and the Global Sustainable Transformation Forum.
