Kochi City Police seem far from convinced actor Shine Tom Chacko to escape a hotel in the city during an inspection last Wednesday (April 16, 2025) at the City Police Department’s Special Anti-Drug Operations Department (DANSAF).

During a prolonged interrogation Saturday, the actor told police he had fled him for his life because he mistakenly thought police officers for stupidity.

Local Police Chief Putta Vimaladitya (Kochi City) (April 21) told the media on Kochi: “If so, he could have contacted the police or contacted us later.

He said the actors would be called again if the police had to come up with further information.

Asked if the actor was a habitual user of drugs, Mr Vimaladitya said it was too early to confirm because more details were needed. “In addition, despite the investigation, there is little specific evidence about what he calls a drug deal,” he said.

Mr Vimaladitya said the investigation was in its initial stages and it is now impossible to confirm whether more defendants were involved. “We registered because the ostensible trial of his trial revealed what needs to be investigated. It was also suspicious that he fled the hotel during the police inspection. However, we have not taken any mandatory action yet.”

Police have not received any evidence to link Mr. Chajak’s simultaneous review to any drug rackets. Ahmmed Murshad, 25, who was allegedly found in Mr Chacko’s hotel room, was also booked.

He added: “We have taken steps to collect information and follow-up on allegations of drug use in the movie set. However, there are no specific details about the use of drugs in Mr Chacko’s statement.”

“Since the investigation is in its initial stages, can we add more charges in cases against actors. If the investigation is worth it, we will do so. There can also be a meeting of investigators.”

Asked if the police were trying to track down drug vendors to find people who were checking the hotel with Dansaf team, Mr. Vimaladitya said: “Even if otherwise, the city police took the necessary actions to monitor and act against drug vendors.”

He added: “We have also conducted many cases under the Anesthetic Drugs and Spiritual Substances (NDPS) Act.”

Mr. Chacko was arrested on Saturday in Section 238 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (inducing the disappearance of evidence of crime) and anesthetic drugs and psychogenic substances (NDPS) Section 27(b)(b)(b)(b)(b)(b)(b)(b)(any anesthetic drugs or psychogenic substances or psychogenic substances) and Section 29 (punishment of crimes) (punishment and offences) (punishment) (Ablection) (Ablectiac) and offences. He was later released on bail.
