Navy Chief opens new North Pier at Naval Base

Naval Chief of Staff Dinesh K. Tripathi opened a new North Pier at the naval base here on Wednesday.

The pier is extended by 300 meters in length and is 18 meters wide, and is designed to berth a variety of naval vessels. According to an official press release, the new facility will meet the South Navy Command’s enhanced requirements for berths and support services for vessels and auxiliary vessels.

The project is performed by Cochin Port Authority and awarded to AFCONS Infrastructure Co., Ltd. It said that the capacity of Kochi Naval Port as a vital logistical node on the Southern Peninsula has been enhanced, and the berth facility has enhanced the Navy’s ability to effectively support and turn over major naval combatants to ensure greater flexibility in naval operations.

The release notes that infrastructure is of great significance to enhanced operational support and ongoing maritime security operations, which has continued to grow stably and continuously in recent years.

The new Northern Pier plays a crucial role in enhancing India’s maritime capabilities while promoting seamless naval operations. Its milestone project symbolizes the strong commitment and teamwork of all relevant institutions and stakeholders.
