Nawaz Sharif, three-time Pakistani Prime Minister and founder of the ruling Muslim League (PML-N), had suggested that his younger brother and current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif use all available diplomatic resources to restore peace with India and insisted that he opposed a positive stance.

The two brothers met in Lahore on Sunday evening, and Shebaz briefed Nawaz Sharif about the decision made by the government on India after the National Security Council (NSC) meeting, especially after India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) following the Pahargam attack.

Sources said Shehbaz Sharif detailed how his government has returned measures to Delhi and closed Indian airspace. He also briefly covered the country’s preparations for a greater response to any Indian aggression against India.

Sources said: “Prime Minister Shebaz told his brother and the founder of the party that India’s unilateral decision to suspend the Indian Waters Treaty increased the risk of war in the region.”

Nawaz Sharif advised Prime Minister Shehbaz not to take any positive stance on this matter and to use diplomatic channels to ease tensions.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has called on India to form an international commission, with officials from countries including United States, Russia, China and Britain to investigate the Pahalgam attack, claiming that if such a commission is made, Islamabad would also bring forth evidence of Indian involvement behind the Jaffar Express terror attack in Balochistan, along with direct connections with anti-Pakistan groups, including the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Khawaja Asif said: “Although we know it is a false flag operation, we are ready to work with any such committee to close the curtains of the play. However, if there are any unfortunate events, India will witness our preparation.”
