NDSA SLAMS AP exceeds Srisailam Dam safety

Hyderabad: The National Dam Safety Agency (NDSA) expressed serious concern about the safety of the Srisailam dam in Andhra Pradesh, which clearly demonstrates that searches on riverbeds and rock profiles downstream of the dam have “potential to undermine dam safety”.
In a letter to the Associated Press administration, NDSA Chairman Anil Jain inspected the dam on April 29 and 30, noting that it was clearly a lack of approach to the safety of the dam and said: “Its regular monitoring is a recommendation of all experts for the safety of Srisailam. However, the safety of SRISAILAM does not comply with the scope of the SC.
The degree of attention to damage to the dam structure, and temporary protection in the form of installed steel cylinders to stop further damage immediately after the spillway, the NDSA asked the Associated Press government to “minimize” the actions of Gate 5 and 6 (in the middle of the dam in the middle of the dam, there are 12 doors in the middle of the old Kovfdan.”
It may be remembered that once efforts begin to understand the damage caused by the formation of a huge plunger pool downstream of the waters dropped by the spillway, problems with the Srisailam Dam began to emerge. It may also be remembered that Telangana has been urging the AP government and NDSA to carry out immediate repairs of the plunge pool and repairs to the remaining damaged dam structures, warning that the dam may even face catastrophic failure in the event of major floods.
NDSA said that short-term work must be completed immediately before the monsoon began, which will likely give the Associated Press government only about two weeks to complete all given tasks, especially as the Indian Meteorological Department predicts the beginning of the early quarter of this year.
As part of the short-term measure, NDSA requires immediate geophysical and topographic studies to determine damages and to take rehabilitation measures for installed damaged cylinders to prevent the water from vanishing from the spillways from the layers of riverbeds.
Regarding long-term measures, the NDSA recommends that the Associated Press government seek help from the Central Water Commission in designing rehabilitation measures to participate in the competition pool, which could lead to further problems if left unattended. It further requires a “stable analysis” of blocks 8 and 12 of the dam, “minimum value.”

NDSA Worries about Srisailam Dam Safety
Despite clear recommendations, no depth measurement surveys were conducted on the plunger area and under water photography of the cylinder.
Given possible damage and downstream left abutment may be restricted;
Given possible flushing of the old Cofferdam, the use of doors 5 and 6 is reduced given severe damage.
Rehabilitation of steel cylinders installed immediately to protect the dam from searching in plunge pools;
Short-term solutions must be implemented before the start of this year’s monsoon
