Circular Economy Through E-waste Management: Andhra Pradesh CS

Vijayawada: Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand stressed that the environment is protected and the circular economy can be created only through the scientific management of electronic and electrical waste. He spoke on Saturday at an e-waste awareness program held under the Sri-Swachhchandra initiative.

The event was organized by Guntur Municipal Corporation, hosting rally, exhibitions and launching e-waste collection vehicles. Vijayanand, Swachhchandra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram, regional collector S. Nagalakshmi, and other officials planted the saplings and signed the signature campaign.

Vijayanand notes that the increasing use of electronic products is generating more e-waste, which, if not properly disposed of, can cause severe land and water pollution. He said the Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (RRR) Centre will be established throughout the state to deal with e-waste and will soon introduce a special e-waste policy by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

Under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), the company will be responsible for recycling e-waste. Collector Nagalakshmi added that Swarnandhra – Swachhchandra’s unique theme has been observed on the third Saturday of each month since January. So far, more than 190 million people have participated in the competition.
