Neeraj Chopra breaks the 90m mark for the first time in her career, in 2025

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra achieved an extraordinary milestone after exceeding the 90m mark in the Doha Diamond League on Friday, May 16. In his third attempt, his third attempt was impressive at 90.23 meters, Neeraj became the 25th athlete in history, breaking this major obstacle. The 27-year-old has been close to this achievement before, with his best throws at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022 at 89.94 meters.
Neeraj started the race with a sensational throw of 88.44 meters, leading in Doha. This performance not only demonstrated his outstanding talents, but also qualified him as a Tokyo World Track and Field Championship, where the qualifying standard was set at 85.5 meters. In the competition, Olympic bronze medalist Anderson Peters finished second with 85.64 meters, while Keshorn Walcott finished third with a distance of 84.65 meters. Although Neeraj’s second attempt resulted in a foul, his initial throw set a high bar for other competitors to work hard to match.
