MG Sreekumar, a famous Malayalam singer, was fined Rs 25,000 for dumping waste into Kochi backwater

Mulavukad Grama Panchayat was fined Rs 25,000 by singer MG Sreekumar for allegedly pouring waste into Kochi backwater. Authorities said Thursday that Panchayat issued a notice directing the singer to pay the fine within 15 days.

Complaints based on video evidence

The action was taken after a video was recorded by the visitors, showing a garbage bag being thrown into the Kochi dead from the home of the singer in the Mulavukad Panchayat area. Panchayat sources said the video was later uploaded on social media and marked as local government minister MB Rajesh.

Minister responds to public complaints

Following the social media post, Minister MB Rajesh said complaints about public waste, if supported by evidence, can submit the government’s WhatsApp number (94467 00800) to take necessary action.

Inspections and fines

After receiving the complaint, the local agency’s control room directed the Panchayat authorities to inspect the location on the same day. Panchayat sources added that the inspection confirmed the incident, resulting in a fine under relevant parts of the Panchayat Raj Act.

Possible further action

“After considering the singer’s response, Panchayat will take further action when needed,” said a top Panchayat staff member.

MG Sreekumar has not responded to the issue yet.
