Nellol: Up to 10 workers fell ill on Saturday in a gas leak at Water Base Limited in the village of Ananthavaram in TP Gudur Mandal in Nellore district.
According to Nellore rural DSP Ghattamaneni Sreenivasa Rao, gas leaks originate from ammonia fuel plants in the facility during shrimp processing. Technician P. Suresh suffered a burn after he was in contact with the leaked liquid while trying to arrest the leak.
People exposed to ammonia included three women. Suresh and three women were taken by officials to a private hospital in Nellore. DSP confirmed their condition was stable. The remaining six workers who experienced mild symptoms were treated at the company premises and were reportedly recovering.
Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the cause of gas leaks and to ensure enhanced safety measures to prevent such incidents.
