New Assam BJP chief executive attempts to curb factionism

New Delhi: With the Assam parliamentary elections early next year, newly appointed state BJP President Dilip Saikia launched a unanimous effort to curb internal factionalism and strengthen party discipline.
Since taking charge in January, MP Darrang-Udalguri personally met with senior BJP staunchers – including Narayan Chandra Borkotoky, Bijoya Chakravarty and Rajen Gohain, who have raised concerns about being partly caught. Saikia also conducts regular cadre consultations to solicit organizational feedback before parliamentary polls and next month’s local body elections, with the BJP-led NDA already receiving 37 Zilla Parishad and 280 Anchalik Panchayat seats.
Saikia publicly condemned the Forest Minister Jayanata Mallabaruah, close aide to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and was exhibited in a widely circulated video. The rapid corrective measures strengthened Sekiya’s message that “all leaders are equal before the party leads.”
Last month, he also insisted that MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi apologized to the rally at the convention after “shocking the public”, despite Kurmi apologizing privately on the floor.
