The Andhra Pradesh Livestock Development Authority (APLDA) plans to use sexual classification semen technology to promote artificial insemination of cattle to ensure more female calves, thereby increasing milk production and dairy farmers’ income.

APLDA has achieved initial success using this technology to build self-confidence among dairy farmers in the production of female calves.

To date, the animal and animal husbandry department has conducted 1,23,677 rituals, with encouraging results, with the ratio of female to male calves being about 91:9, M. Dr. Srinivasa Rao, CEO (Carector of APLDA), Guntur, Guntur, Guntur, Guntur, Guntur, Guntur, M. Dr. Srinivasa Rao. Hindu On Friday.

What is sexual semen

Sex-grade semen is processed to isolate sperm cells with X chromosomes (causing female offspring) or Y chromosomes (causing male offspring), increasing the chance of producing calves of the desired gender.

APLDA aims to promote this technology under the Accelerated Breeding Improvement Program (ABIP) – Gender Grading Semen Project.

“It is planned to use sexually classified semen technology to perform 4,00,000 modulators, covering at least 10% of the state’s breedable cattle herd,” said Dr. Srinivasa Rao.

If all goes well, the use of traditional semen will be replaced with gender-grade semen within five years. He said that with the help of indigenous sexual behavior technology, the production cost of sexual semen will be further reduced.

Game Changers for Animal Breeding

“Sperm technology for sexual behavior is a game changer for animal breeding. This helps double the income of dairy farmers in two to three years, due to increased milk production and production of female calves,” the CEO explained.

The Central and Andhra Pradesh governments have introduced semen techniques for sexual behavior to promote the production of female calves in the state, thus producing more milk and female calves under the Rashtriya Gokul mission.

He said the project was established to produce more than 90% of female calves in a short period of time, thereby increasing animal wealth in rural areas.

Under this project, each region will identify at least 35 to 40 “elite” animals belonging to interested farmers. It is possible that at least 25 female calves will give birth after a deal with the farmers. These calves will conceive in three to four years. After calving, the lactation cycle will have 200 to 250 liters of production.

Farmers can pregnant animals according to the plan. They need to register a normal circulation heifer (cow or buffalo) in the third to third lactation between 60 and 90 days after calving. He said healthy and disease-free animals will be selected for the program.

The CEO said varieties such as Murrah, Jersey, Holstein Friesian, Cross-Bred jersey, hybrid Holstein Friesian, Gir, Sahiwal and others will be available to farmers.

He added that under the scheme, two straws will be provided, each with a subsidy of Rs 675 each to be used to perform artificial insemination.
