New scam alert! Women charge Rs 4.6 lakh trip to Luber; that’s what happened

The woman claimed that the trip was booked and was charged 2 km or less for a price of between Rs 4,000 and Rs 8,000.
In the digital age, we only need to click one click, whether it’s booking tickets, shopping or ordering food. However, with the help of new technologies, several scams have emerged in the market. Now, there is a new scam that is copying your mobile number and then using your ride to book your Uber and charging a high ride for a ride that may last two minutes. Recently, a woman who received an alert on the Uber app on her phone at around 4.30 a.m. on Saturday, said: “My trip has been verified and pins have been generated.” The woman, a professional journalist, initially thought she had booked a Uber ride incorrectly. “The message redirected me to the Uber login page and asked me to log in with my phone number. Half asleep, I fed halfway through the number, then closed the phone and fell back to sleep.”
A few hours later, at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, she received a call from an Uber driver saying that my city ride in Punjab had been booked and he was waiting at the pick-up location. Confused by the phone again, she used the Uber app to check if she had booked any rides or if there were booked trips booked through her ID. She didn’t find it. The woman received at least 40 calls over the weekend, including 1:30 or 2:30 a.m.
No travel fees for Rs 4.6 lakh
The woman said she received a call from an office administrator on Monday claiming she charged Rs 4.6 lakh on her company account on Uber. The woman has a company account related to her Uber app since 2018. She only uses the account in her official job. “I stopped using the account after the pandemic, but the account was not removed from my app,” she said.
“During the past two years, until Saturday, no travel was opened to the company. Further investigations showed that the travel was booked and charged 2 km or less for a price of between Rs 4,000 and Rs 8,000.” Her company has now blocked her phone number on the app and raised it to Uber. The woman also filed a formal complaint against the cybercrime cell. Fortunately, there was no money debited from her company’s account or her account.
