The large statue of marathon ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj nine months after the collapse of Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed a new and larger statue at the same location on May 11, 2025 (May 11, 2025). “The magnificent statue of Shivaji Maharaj will inspire future generations. An attractive statue was erected in record time. This statue will be represented for at least 100 years. This will lead to the development of the surrounding area to promote tourism.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologized to the Warrior King after the statue of Modi was announced to collapse in August 2024. Since then, the government has announced the construction of new statues at the same location. Police plan was also registered for this matter.
Speaking about the security situation in Maharashtra, CM said the government has reviewed the security situation and is in a state of readiness.
“In the design and construction phase, special attention is paid to the challenging weather conditions in the area, including heavy rain and typical storms in the Konkan belt. The statue has been structurally strengthened to withstand extreme weather. Even in adverse circumstances, the statue (such as storms), the statue is intended to remain unaffected and stable to ensure a long-term statistical range that allows the statue to be trampled at a height. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in India has been designed for durability with an estimated lifespan of 100 years.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other ministers from the Maharashtra government also attended the unveiling.
The statue was built by the state public works department and costs Rs 31.75 crore. The work was done by the company of senior sculptor Ram Sutar. The statue with the sword is 60 feet tall and is completely made of bronze. Stainless steel frames have been used to support the statue, while high-end M50 concrete and stainless steel rods have been used for the base. Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, verified the concept and design.
