NIE announces development of AI-centric labs

The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, in partnership with Lenovo and the manufacturer Bhavan Foundation (MBF), announced the development of Alpha (Advanced Laboratory for Programming, Hardware, and Analysis) Innovation and Tinkerers’ labs, which are described as based on the model of The The Tinkerers of the Tinkerers of the Tinkerers of the Tinkerers).
Considered as Mysuru’s first initiative, it marks Lenovo’s first CSR partnership with Indian higher education institutions and MBF’s first surpassing IIT and IIT and location. According to Nie, this is also Nie’s first CSR-backed lab.
Located on the northern campus, the lab will provide 24/7 access and features high-performance computing systems, advanced prototyping tools, and resources for AI, ML, IoT and digital manufacturing.
Nie President Rohini Nagapadma said it promotes hands-on interdisciplinary learning and innovation.
She added that through MBF’s LEAP (through Activity and Product Learning Engineering) program and Lenovo’s Practical Professor (POP) model, the lab will integrate industry courses into the courses to help students in various departments build real-world solutions that combine hardware, software and data.
According to the press release here, the lab is supported by Lenovo Global Technology India Pte Ltd and Motorola Mobile India Pte Ltd and has been coached and supported by Lenovo’s Indian R and D teams.
