Nipah: Minister warns not to destroy quarantine

Health Minister Veena George issued a stern warning directing those who were in contact with women infected with Nipah to strictly adhere to 21 days of quarantine from Valanchery despite negative tests on the virus.

Ms. George warned people not to be complacent and warned that this should not be taken easily even in the absence of new cases. She pointed to Nipa’s high priority status worldwide and strict national and state agreements to combat viral infections.

Meanwhile, the condition of a 42-year-old woman infected with Nipah remains crucial on Wednesday. She had been in a coma in the intensive care unit of the EMS Memorial Hospital in Perinthalmanna.

Health officials completed their fever investigation, covering 4,749 homes within the radius of the Nipah patient house in Valanchery (Nipah patient house).

After the patient developed symptoms on April 25, as many as 166 people were in contact with the patient in the isolation area. Although 65 of them are at high risk, 101 are at low risk.

The minister asked them to be quarantined in the quarantine area for 21 days, even if they tested Nepa negatively. It is recommended that they avoid traveling and interactions with others. Official statement said those who violate the quarantine guidelines will be punished.
