Nipah’s patient remains in a coma

The condition of a 42-year-old woman from Valanchery, affected by the Valanchery virus, remained unchanged on Sunday. The woman stayed in the intensive care unit of the EMS Memorial Hospital in Perrin Salmanna. As part of the state’s NIPAH treatment regimen, give her two doses of monoclonal antibodies and other drugs.

“Her condition is still stable, neither improving nor worsening,” said district medical officer R. Renuka.

Health Minister Veena George said another 11 people were on the list of contacts of affected women on Sunday, bringing the total number of people who tested negative for Nipah to 42.

Sunday’s contact list included up to 18 people, increasing the total on the list to 112. When 54 of them were in the high-risk group, 58 were in the low-risk category.

As many as 81 of them are from the Malappuram district, 25 are from the Palakkad district, three are from the Kozhikode district, and one is from the Ernakulam, Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram districts.

Ten of them are being treated for a variety of diseases, and two of them have been in intensive care units (ICUs). Mr George said they were given preventive treatment.

The minister reviewed Nipa’s situation through an online meeting, which took part in the state’s senior health officials on Sunday night.

Fever surveillance

Training health officials were among 2,087 homes in and around Sunday as part of ongoing fever surveillance. They cover 87% of the homes in the area and have visited a total of 3,868 homes so far.

The health department will conduct a joint outbreak investigation on Monday with the support of the livestock department. Surveillance of livestock in the area will begin on Monday.

Officials will study the latest changes in animal behavior and collect samples from domestic animals. They will also investigate recent deaths in recent animals and collect samples where possible. “We have limitations in including wildlife. The focus will be on cats and dogs,” said C.
