Nirmal Cops launches female commando division

Adilabad: The Nirmal Police Department unveiled on Saturday at a ceremony held by Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on the unveiling of the “Shivangi” of the Professional Women’s Commando trained by Senior Weapons and Jungle Warfare.

The Shivangi, composed of 16 hand-selected female officials, conducted an intensive 45-day training program covering explosives handling, live shooting, live signals, map reading, uncovered navigation, surveillance and counterinsurgency tactics. The program was conceptualized and implemented under the leadership of SP Janaki Sharmila.

Minister Seethakka spoke at the press conference to call the initiative a “landmark step in the empowerment of women by the police force” and promised to establish similar commando teams in other regions. “Shivangi will not only strengthen our security agencies, but also inspire female officials across the state,” she said.

SP Janaki Sharmila described Shivangi as “the first unit of similar products in Telangana” and expressed confidence that it will achieve “tangible results of counter-insurgency and emergency response” in the coming months. Nirmal collector Abhilasha Abhinav and senior police officers were also present at the program.
