Nithin Kamath raises warnings for digital arrests claiming Indians lost more than Rs 20 billion | What should you do?
Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath highlights the growing number of digital fraud arrests in India. According to him, people across the country suffered more losses than ₹20 billion this year.
Nithin Kamath entered the social media platform X and shared details of the digital arrest scam.

How does a digital arrest scam work?
Zerodha co-founders further describe how people are deceived into scams.
His post read: “You get a call from someone who claims to be a police officer. They tell you that you caught a courier package in your name because it contains illegal items such as drugs or other contraband. You then get a WhatsApp video call from a driver with a police uniform, wearing a police officer.
Camas further warned: “Those of us educated people may think that no one will be in trouble with such an obvious scam, but educated Indians are trapped in the victims of these frauds.”
Nithin Kamath also shared advice on how to protect himself from digital arrests. He advises people to look for experts and not to act rushing to act.
“I also shared this earlier: Never rush to react when you get a call like this. At least, talk to a knowledgeable person, talk to your lawyer, or just walk into the nearest police station. The fraud is because we are instinctively afraid and do anything to avoid trouble. Don’t rush to react. Also, don’t get calls and messages from unknown numbers,” he wrote.
