One arrested for bidding to bury a newborn in Pudukkottai

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Saturday night with a newborn baby girl in the village of Udhayasuriyapuram located within the range of the Panayapatti police station in Thirumayam Taluk.

The crime took place after an elderly neighbor noticed an attempt to bury the baby and alert the police. Panayapatti police acted quickly and rescued the baby before causing any harm to it. Later, on the same night, Silambarasan, 21, from Vayalogam village in Annavasal, was arrested. He allegedly maintained a romantic relationship with R. Vinodha, the mother of the 21-year-old baby who was scheduled to be in a caste. Police suspect he is the baby’s biological father.

Police sources said Silambarasan was booked under Article 91 (intention to cause death of a child after birth) and Article 49 (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (BNS) (to or crime encouraged).

Vinodha gave birth to the baby on Friday morning, and he and her baby were treated at the Pudukkottai Government Raniyar Hospital. Police said action will be taken once she is discharged from the hospital.
