North Axis Project Unveils Mridanga

North Axis Project has launched their latest track “Mridanga”, a percussion-driven bass composition that seamlessly blends Kerala’s rich musical heritage with contemporary electronic sounds.
“Mridanga” is a vibrant fusion of Indian classical percussion and modern electronic grooves. The track features Mridangam, a centuries-old South Indian drum with affectionate violin melody, deep bass, atmospheric synthesizers and hypnotic textures. Inspired by recent journeys in the temples and streets of Kerala, the work captures the festive attitudes of street performances and the rhythmic nature of ritual music.
This track incorporates the organic tradition through electronic experiments, making it an ideal complement to the playlists of organic houses, deep, world fusion and electronic chill.
“It’s not just a track, it’s a rhythmic journey,” said Siddharth Bhayani, the creativity behind the North Axis project. “It’s about occupying the soul of southern India and reimagining it as a festival stage, underground clubs and global streaming list.”
Traditionally, Mridangam is regarded as the backbone of Carnatic music, mainly related to the rituals and classical concerts of the temple. “Mridanga” marks a creative turning point by reshaping the role of instruments in modern soundscapes. By pairing its earthy tones with electronic generation, field loops and global sound design, “Mridanga” pushes Mridangam into new Sonic fields spanning experimental electronics, world music and Techno.
“It’s not about replacing the legacy, but about reimagining the traditional voice of a new generation of global audiences,” Siddharth added.
The concept of “Mridanga” was born during Siddharth’s trip to Kerala, and he experienced the rhythmic heartbeat of the region – whether it’s Chenda Melam on the street, Kathakali Drumming or Temple Conseions. These dynamic experiences inspire in-depth exploration of rhythm, identity, and innovation.
“Mridangam is more than just an instrument, it’s a storyteller. With ‘Mridanga, we globalize this story,” Siddharth stressed.
