Former Congress President and parliamentary opposition leader Rahul Gandhi urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to enact the Rohith Vemula bill to allow any child in India to face Br Ambedkar, Rohith Vemula, Rohith Vemula and a million others to endure.
The former Congress president quoted the caste discrimination that Dr. BR Ambedkar experienced at school in a letter to the Chief Minister and said: “It is regrettable that millions of students in Dalit, Adivasi and OBC communities must face such cruel discrimination in our education system to this day”.
After Rohith Vemula, a Dalit scholar at the University of Hyderabad, ended his life in January 2016, various parts of the two Telugu states (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) have been demanding the enactment of the law. This was one of the main requests during the protests after Rohith’s death.
A few days ago, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured that the government would enact the bill – to eliminate discrimination based on caste and identity in educational institutions. Mr. Siddaramaiah announced the response in response to Mr. Gandhi’s request.
Lop quotes Ambedkar’s description of his experience at school: “I know I am an unshakable and untouchable object affected by certain insults and discrimination.
Mr Gandhi added that the Chief Ministers of Telangana agreed that Dr. Ambedkar faced a shameful face that no child in India should bear, murdering smart young people like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi and Darshan Solanki, which was simply unacceptable. “It’s time to end this goal firmly,” he said.
