Watch: NASA astronaut Sunita Williams’s dog gives her “the best homecoming ever”, Elon Musk reacts

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams spent nine months on the International Space Station (ISS) and returned to Earth on March 18. Her mission could only last eight days initially, but technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft greatly expanded her accommodation. Although she maintains her makeup in space, she often expresses her desire for home, especially family and dogs.

Heartfelt homecoming

Williams shared a heart-warming video of her long-awaited party with her two Labrador Retrievers (Gunner) and Gorby, two weeks after landing in the waters near Tallahassee, Florida. As she walked outside the house, the dog defined her, her tail swaying stimulatingly.
“Who is here? Gunner, come here. This is my good boy.” She said, “Well, she hugged Gorby, and the Gunner charged her with a stick in his mouth. She asked mischievously, “What are you doing? Are you showing off, boy?” When the Gunner ran away again, she smiled and said, “Gunner, are you giving me cold shoulders?” Even Gorby followed closely, prompting Williams to tease him, “Are you too? Are you imitating?”
She captioned the video: “The best homecoming ever!”

Social media buzz and Musk’s reaction

The video soon spread, attracting emotional reactions from social media users. Even billionaires Elon Musk Note that heart emojis are left in the comments. Many users share their admiration for Williams and her deep bond with dogs. “I just love how dogs are so happy and fully show their emotions when welcoming their favorite person – they like little angels.” Another commented: “It’s not easy to live in space for eight months! Congratulations! They deserve the highest respect.”
During her time at the ISS, Williams often talked about how much she missed at her New England home. She longs for simple fun – spending her morning walk with the dog, hearing the birds, and feeling the breeze on her face.

Back on Earth, she described the process of adjusting to normal life. “It’s nice to come back,” she said in an interview in Houston. “Even if it’s humid air, it’s like blowing through you and seeing other people on the track, it’s so nice.

Williams’ father is from India and he often talks about her connections to the country. She marveled at how “amazing” India looks from space and expressed a strong desire to visit soon. “I will visit my father’s homeland and share my experiences with people there about space exploration,” she said.

For Williams, this homecoming is not just about returning to the earth, but about rediscovering the simple joy that makes life particularly.
