Odisha cabinet clears 11.25% of SEBC students’ seat reservations

Bhubaneswar: A major action, Odisha’s cabinet approved a proposal on Wednesday to provide 11.25% of seat reservations for students in the Social and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) of educational institutions. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the decision: “This policy will be implemented from the current academic conference.”

The Chief Minister addressed reporters after the cabinet meeting, calling it a landmark decision aimed at promoting equitable educational opportunities. He accused the former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government led by Naveen Patnaik of not retaining high school and higher education to SEBC students.

The initiative aims to ensure uniform implementation of retention policies in education enrollment across the state. According to CM, the revised booking framework will include 22.5% of scheduled tribe (ST) students, 16.25% of scheduled caste (SC), 11.25% of SEBC, 5% of persons with disabilities (PWD) and 1% of outside staff.

This policy will apply to all state public universities, state governments and auxiliary higher secondary schools and higher education institutions, including the provision of teacher education, LLB, comprehensive law, bachelor’s degree in performing arts and BPED./MPED./MPED. Courses under various departments of the state government.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi for their efforts to provide SEBC students with reservations.
