The heat waves across the Rayalaseema area have attracted attention, but the animals contained in the Sri Venkateswara Zoo (SVZP) in Tirupati have reason to be happy.

Just as every year of this part of summer, zoo management is carefully arranged to help animals with calories. Strive to keep room temperature between 28c and 29c.

The swimming pool in the animal’s shell is often filled with enough water to allow the animal to bask in the warm sun on the eve. Carnivores such as tigers, leopards and jaguars also spend some time swimming in their respective fences when elephants enter the pool and splash out of the water.

Zoo authorities have arranged arrangements very similar to those of human residences in animal shelters. Fans, air coolers have been installed in the shelter, while windows are covered with “Vettive” (Khus Khus) mats that are often wet to give the animals inside a cool wave.

“These are separated, we gave the reflective coating of cold white paint on the roof to prevent radiation from entering the cage. The sprinkler device is installed outside the animal’s shell and when they walk out, they apply a lot of cool water on the carnivore.”

Bird sensitivity

In fact, birds are more likely to face severe stress due to heat waves and are therefore susceptible to dehydration. If left unattended, they will also face threats to their lives. Therefore, mist is arranged in the shelter, allowing birds to enjoy the cool mist and defeat the heat.

With the forecast for the coming summer, zoo authorities made arrangements in February. These arrangements may continue until the end of June, when a brief respite is expected.
