UPI Down: Online payment services (such as Google Pay, Paytm faces a large number of power outages), netizens complained

UPI users in India encountered major technical problems on the online payment system on Monday, and transactions through Phonepe, Google Pay and Paytm were difficult to do. Users are facing problems such as incomplete transactions, remittances, etc. Social media users shared news about the incident, and about 900 people were facing problems. Some users are even facing the hassle of loading or interacting with the application in any way.

According to the Descent Detector, more than 62% of users reported fund transfer issues, while 21% complained about facing problems with the app, while only 17% were in trouble with payment difficulties. This is the first UPI interruption this month. However, the issue of payments as part of the UPI disruption occurred twice in April. At the time, the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) said the trouble with UPI applications was due to a number of reasons, including banks requiring “check transaction status”, which overwhelmed the system. However, for the current interruption, NPCI has not confirmed any cause or explanation.

The UPI disruption took place as tensions rose to a war. In view of this, the Ministry of Finance has requested all financial institutions, including the NPCI, to stay away from any potential cyberattacks on Pakistan. The ministry believes Pakistan may commit cybercrime.

Social media users are frustrated with UPI disruptions by sharing their experiences. Users have been sharing their experiences with #upidown. One user wrote: “#upidown again. Too weird! It’s getting too frequent now. First, #UPI collapsed, and then the bank announced its own “downtime” for UPI transactions. KA online payment system in India.” Another user shared the issue and wrote: “UPI service is closed on major platforms such as GPAY, PHONEPE and PAYTM. In a country that is rapidly heading towards digital payments, this frequent blackout has attracted serious attention.”
