After authorities evacuated residents near the border of India’s suburban Chamu on May 7, 2025, India and Pakistan exchanged heavy artillery along India’s line of control on May 7, after which the villagers brought their belongings to safer areas. Local government officials said India conducted several civil defense drills in the states on May 7, while schools in Punjab and Kashmir in Pakistan were closed.
