Opposition demands Kerala CM resignation

The opposition congress and the BJP asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to resign on Thursday (April 3, 2025) after his daughter T. Veena was named by the Office of Serious Fraud Investigation (SFIO) amid the “illegal payment” scandal.
According to reports, the SFIO investigation found Rs 18.2 billion in financial fraud within the mining company, which has also been accused of several other frauds in the company. It notes that fraud is done by exaggerating non-existent fees and creating fake bills.
Kerala Congress Committee Chairman K. Sudhakaran, MPs called on Mr. Vijayan to resign immediately, urging the ongoing CPI(M) party congress in Madurai to take the matter seriously.
No chief minister in Madurai has reported that the investigation found that she received Rs 27 crore from a private mining company without providing any services. The report also claims that the Alliance Corporate Affairs Department has approved the prosecution process.
Kerala High Court reportedly rejected the plea for Congress MLA MATHEW KUZHALNADAN and nearly a week later sought an investigation into Mr Vijayan to understand the financial transactions between his daughter’s now-failed IT company and a private mining company. Mr. Kuzarnadan has filed a High Court lawsuit against the order of the alert court, denied his investigation into the durability of Mr. Vijayan against the private mining company Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) (CMRL) and IT IT’s stubborn daughter.
The court dismissed the plea, saying the MLA “failed” to be alert to the fact that the fact that the crime of corruption above the court constituted him alleged against his daughter and her IT company Mr. Vijayan.
Mr. Sudhakaran responded to the new developments in the case, “This is a crime that can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. Neither the Chief Minister nor his daughter can escape the evidence. Those who make money will end up with the consequences.” He also claimed that Mr. Vijayan met with the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Kerala Building in Delhi and may seek a way out for the case. However, he noted that Mr. Vijayan has not disclosed what was discussed during the meeting.
“Despite the efforts of honest officials, they cannot avoid the case,” he said, warning that if the party representatives of Madurai continue to cover up Mr Vijayan, it would mark the beginning of the downfall of CPI(M). He urged the party to take a principled position on this issue.
BJP Governor Rajeev Chandrasekhar also demanded Mr Vijayan’s resignation. He claimed mass corruption in his speech at a reporter from Kochi and called for a fair investigation. “The BJP will launch a protest to demand Mr. Vijayan’s resignation,” he said.
Former Union Minister Chandrasekhar also accused CPI(M) and Congress of “collusion” on the grounds of their position on the WAQF (Amendment) bill. “Now, new corruption allegations against CPI(M) have surfaced,” he added.
The leaders of opposition VD Satheesan called the reports “the worst problem” and said SFIO Changesheet confirmed allegations that she was getting payment without providing any services. He added that crimes committed by the Chief Minister’s daughter could be punished with up to 10 years in prison.
Congress also called for protests under the Aegis of all Mandram Congress Committees, burning down the statue of Mr Vijayan. KPCC Secretary-General M. Liju said the protests will also be held at the regional headquarters.
