Original parental documents required for property registration: Minister

The original parent documents were required for registration of property documents as incidents of misuse of forged copies, Secretary of Commerce Tax and Registration P. Moorthy argued at the General Assembly on Wednesday.
The minister is pouring into AIADMK’s S. Sundararajan (Sankari), who highlights the challenges the owners face when registering real estate without the original parent documents. AIADMK lawmakers also mentioned court decisions in this regard.
In his answer, the minister said that if the original parental documents were lost, an untraceable police certificate would be obtained. He noted that attempts to abuse the original parent documents with fake photocopy and insisted on producing original parent documents for registered attributes.
In response to the debate on the need for grants in the business tax and registration sector in 2025-26, the minister said that 33,59,175 documents were registered during the 2024-2025 period, with revenue of Rs 21,968,24 crore.
Revenue generated in the document registration periods of 2023-24, 2022-23 and 2021-22 was Rs 188,253.2 billion, respectively, Rs 17,296.84 crore and Rs 139,136.5 billion, respectively.
