Orthopedic surgeon Soundarapandian died at the age of 94

S. Soundarapandian, founder of Soundarapandian Skeleton and United Hospital in Anna Nagar, died Wednesday in Chennai. He was 94 years old at the time. He is survived by his wife Kothai, two sons and a daughter.

His sons Sivamurugan and Ravisuramaniam are also orthopedics. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Dr. Soundarapandian has been treating patients until 2020, said Mohan Rajan, chairman and medical director of Rajan Eye Care Hospital. “he [Dr. Soundarapandian] Institute of Orthopedics Development in Government General Hospital [RGGGH]. In the 1970s and 1980s, there were no private hospitals and all normal situations only appeared on GH. RGGGH is one of the gold standard institutions for performing complex surgery. ” he added.

Dr. Soundarapandian was born on July 4, 1931 in Thoothukudi and obtained MS Orthopeadics from the MADRAS Medical College (MMC) from Stanley Medical College and MS General Surgery and MS Orthopeadics. He conducted a federal scholarship program at the Nuffield Orthopedic Center in Oxford.

He served as a professor of orthopedics at MMC and eventually led the department, teaching for more than 30 years. He founded the Soundarapandian Skeleton and United Hospital in Anna Nagar in 1982.

Dr. Mohan Rajan described him as “Doyan of orthopedic surgery.
