India is ready to provide all possible help: PM Modi on the earthquake in Thailand, Myanmar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the devastating earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand on Friday and said India is ready to provide all possible aid to both countries. The earthquake rocked many parts of Thailand, including its capital, Bangkok, the venue for next week’s Bimstec Regional Group Summit, which is planned to be attended by Modi among other leaders.

“The situation after the earthquake that occurred in Myanmar and Thailand. Pray for the safety and well-being of all,” Modi said on X.

“India is ready to provide all possible help. In this regard, our authorities are asked to stand by. The MEA is also asked to keep in touch with the governments in Myanmar and Thailand,” he said.
It is understood that India is preparing to provide assistance to both countries.

Thai Prime Minister Paetontarn Shinawatra convened an emergency meeting to assess the impact of the earthquake.


In an article on X, the Indian Embassy in Thailand said there was no report of any adverse events involving any Indian citizens. “The embassy is closely monitoring the coordination with the Thai authorities after strong earthquake tremors were recorded in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand,” it said. “So far, no incidents involving Indian citizens have been reported.”

The embassy added: “All members of the Indian Embassy in Bangkok and the consulate in Chiang Mai are safe.”

The Bimstec Summit will be held in Bangkok on April 4.

In addition to India and Thailand, Bimstec (Bay of Bengal Multi-sector Technology and Economic Cooperation Initiative) includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan.

At the Bangkok summit, Bimstec leaders are expected to consider providing greater momentum for cooperation among member states.
