Page turner from the first page to the last page

Ashley Elston, known for her young adult novels, earned an impressive leap in adult thriller with his first lie. It’s called her first novel, Adults, but her storytelling skills honed in her early work, which made this debut feel less amateur. Those who have read many “first” adult novels will agree that the first lie victory is one of the most powerful ones.
This story introduces us to Evie Porter, who seems to have settled in a new life with her boyfriend Ryan Sumner. Except Evie Porter is not her real name – this is just her latest alias, produced by her mysterious handler, Mr. Smith. Her mission, theoretically, is simple: build trust, collect secrets and provide leverage. But this time it was a complicated issue – the second agent was easily passed by Evie’s twins, assigned to her to cover her and test her loyalty. A mistake, a hesitation, may mean that she has built permanently the end of her carefully constructed life.
Elston made a clever, fast-paced thriller with twists and turns that feel natural rather than forced, and tensions rarely release. Even if they question her every move, readers will find themselves rooted in Evie. There is a delicious romantic info, but it never goes beyond sharp and suspenseful plots.
That is, doubt must be suspended. The ease of the character assuming a new identity and producing flawless fake documents seems a bit relaxed, especially in a world where a legal birth certificate requires a lot of paperwork. Still, it’s a small problem in a story that is closely built and entertained.
The first lie triumph provides a stylish blend of mystery, danger and emotional complexity. It’s a great debut in the adult thriller world – smart, engaging, full of hearts to make the bet real. Elston’s first step into this type is not only good—it’s sleek, clever and impossible to put it down.
