J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday (May 6, 2025) that the ongoing crackdown on attackers attacking Pahargam terrorist attacks should not encounter “suppression of Kashmiris”.
Mr. Abdullah said: “Those who are responsible for the Pahargam attack should be tasked. However, the innocent should not be targeted in the process. It should not be encountered, as if the current suppression was on the entire people of Kashmir. In this case, we have conveyed our point of view,” Mr. Abdullah said.
He warned the security agencies to “act very cautiously and diligently.”

The chief minister also condemned the Kurgam incident, in which a 23-year-old, Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray, died in a search operation, allegedly “fleeing”. Police accused the young man of being a ground worker. However, the family refuted it and claimed that the victim was a worker who had “no connection with the militants.”
“What happened in Kurgam shouldn’t happen, but not only Kurgam, but also news of ongoing arrests from different places in Kashmir. For the first time, people from J&K, especially those from Kashmir, especially Kashmir, opposed the Pahalgam attack and showed anger.
According to J&K police, 90 locals have been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) since the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22 in Kashmir. Twenty-six civilians, mainly tourists, died in the attack.
