Pahalgam attack: Eam S Jaishankar warns perpetrators and supporters must be brought to justice

On Thursday, Foreign Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar tweeted that he spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the deadly Pahargam terrorist attack. The attack took place on April 22, resulting in the tragic deaths of 26 people, mainly tourists. Jaishankar condemned the attack, noting that “it perpetrators, supporters and planners must be brought to justice.” His tweet made clear his accountability: “I discussed the Pahargam terrorist attack with us @secrubio yesterday. Its perpetrators, supporters and planners must be brought to justice.”

The phone call between the two leaders took place for several hours amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The attacks related to the cross-border element have attracted attention to Pakistan’s role in violence. Jaishankar reiterated that India will not tolerate such terrorist acts and must bear the responsibility for liability. He expressed grief over the loss of life and reiterated the United States’ commitment to working with India in the fight against terrorism. Rubio called on both countries to focus on “degraded tensions” in South Asia to protect regional peace and security.

From U.S. Department of State Spokesman Tammy Bruce outlined Rubio’s position: “He encouraged India to interact with Pakistan to ease tensions and ensure peace and security in South Asia.” Although the call for such dialogue is intended to reduce conflict, India is still in its position and has not retreated from its demand for justice.

India’s strong reaction to the attack

In retaliation for the terrorist attacks, India has taken several measures aimed at expressing its dissatisfaction and asserting its position. The government has decided to temporarily cooperate with Pakistan in the Indus Water Treaty, closing the integrated checkpoints in Atari and reducing the strength of the High Commission for India-Pakistan. These diplomatic actions are combined with military reactions.
The Indian armed forces were granted complete freedom of movement when determining their course of action in determining the attack. Indian troops quickly responded to the unprovoked fires along the Line of Control (LOC) in Pakistan, especially from April 30 to May 1. Pakistani troops opened fire at LOC in Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor departments for the seventh consecutive night. The Indian army retaliated in proportion, marking the continuation of ongoing tensions along the border.

Continuous violation of ceasefire and military preparations

This unprovoked aggression in Pakistan took place in the Pahargam terrorist attack. Earlier, on the evening of April 26-27, the Indian army responded decisively to the LOC of Tutmari Gali and Rampur departments. In response to the violence, Kashmir’s security forces have stepped up counter-terrorism operations and taken other measures to prevent further attacks.
The Cabinet Security Committee (CCS) was called after the Pahalgam attack, and officials emphasized the “cross-border link” with the attack. The CCS also noted that the attack came after the successful elections in Jamu and Kashmir, which only exacerbated the complexity of the situation.

Ongoing cross-border tensions have further intensified military and diplomatic actions on both sides, and India has taken firm measures to protect its national security. As the security situation in Kashmir continues to evolve, both military operations and diplomatic efforts will play a key role in determining the outcome of these growing tensions.
