Union Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar on Tuesday (22 April 2025) after targeted terrorist attacks on tourists in Pahalgam in South Kashmir.

The minister added that he briefed the incident to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is currently visiting Saudi Arabia. Mr. Modi spoke with the minister and urged him to take the necessary steps and visit the site.

Among the injured were an 83-year-old tourist from Tamil Nadu and a 65-year-old woman from Odisha. The local Syed Hussain Shah, a resident of Anantnag, was killed. At least 16 people were killed on the spot, while others succumbed to the hospital.

The attack was claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-backed terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let). The group established Article 370 in August 2019 to evade international censorship.

Another government official said the search was carried out in the area around the grassland where the attack occurred. The Army said in a statement that a joint search operation had been launched in the Baisran general area of ​​Pahalgam.

The attack took place after the incident in Kathua, Chamu, on March 27, Mr Shah reviewed the security of J&K from April 7 to 8, when a group of freshly infiltrated unidentified terrorists killed four policemen. During the encounter, two terrorists were killed, and as the search continued, at least three terrorists were still absconding.
