Pahalgam terrorist attack: CRPF seeks explanation from its first responder

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sought explanation from the police, the first police officers to arrive in Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam, southern Kashmir on April 22, the place where terrorists killed 26 people who have not been caught.

Director General of CRPF GP Singh sought explanation from Rajesh Kumar, commander of CRPF 116 Battalion, which was deployed at a camp 7 km away.

Mr. Kumar and a team of 22 people were eager to attack the scene, and the area was reminded of the massacre by the area's pony operators. They rescued three to four injured victims.

There were no security personnel on the grass when the attack occurred. It is said that the number of terrorists is four to six, and they attended the grass for 25-30 minutes, and surrounded from all sides before escaping the scene. Witnesses and survivors said security personnel arrived in more than an hour.

At a party-wide meeting on April 24, a CRPF official told parliament members that it was only possible to access the grassland on foot or pony, and it took CRPF personnel about an hour to get to the scene.

The CRPF has said there are no permanent deployment of troops in the areas where the attack occurred, adding that during the Amarnath Yatra, visitors usually start on July 3 and end on August 9.

A CRPF official said: “Ask commanders to explain whether the precautions to ensure that the route is taken.

According to the unified command structure on the Union territory, the CRPF worked with the help and advice of Jamu and Kashmir police.

The government informed the whole party meeting that Barsaran was open to the public without police permission.

As reported HinduJamu and Kashmir officials said the Baisalan meadow is open to the public year-round and is not one of the safe places regulated in the valley. The contract to operate the tourist location was handed over to Bijbehara residents for Rs 3 crore in August 2024.
