Pahalgam terrorist attack: Eam Jaishankar talks with EU opposition Kaja Kallas

The EU (EU) called on 2 May 2025 (EU) to show “restraint” and to engage in cross-border links amid speculation about India’s possible retaliation against Pakistan to undermine the tensions in dialogue, given the cross-border links with the Pahargam terrorist attacks.

After a separate telephone conversation with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Senior Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas said the tension between the two neighboring countries was increasingly “shocking” and the situation was escalating and the situation helped “no one”.

“The tension between India and Pakistan is shocking. I urge both sides to show restraint and have a dialogue to ease the situation. There is no help in escalation,” she said in an article on X.

She added: “I spoke with @drsjaishankar and @Mishaqdar50 today to convey this message.”

Dr. Jaishankar welcomes the EU's “strong condemnation” of terrorism in his various forms and manifestations.

Dr Jaishankar said in a post on X: “It's great to talk to EU HRVP @Kajakallas. Discussing the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The strong condemnation of all forms and performances by the EU is welcomed.”

After U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged the two countries to work together to eliminate tensions in the Pahargam terrorist attacks, the EU called for restrictions on India and Pakistan.

Mr Rubio spoke with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Dr Jashankar on Wednesday (30 April 2025) as tensions between the two neighbors between the Pahargam strike on April 22, 26 people, mainly tourists, mostly tourists.

India cited “cross-border links” of “cross-border links” and promised to impose severe punishment on those involved.

At a high-level meeting with top defense brass, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Tuesday (29 April 2025) that the armed forces have “complete freedom of movement” that can determine India’s response to the pattern, target and time of terrorist attacks, according to government sources.

Sources said after the meeting that the prime minister confirmed that it was a national determination to deal with a heavy blow to terrorism.

India announced a series of punitive measures against Pakistan on April 23, including a moratorium on the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the only operating ground border crossing of the Atari state in Punjab, and reducing diplomatic ties, in light of cross-border links with Pahalgam attacks.

In response, Pakistan shut down its airspace to Indian passenger planes and suspended all trade with India, including through third countries.

Pakistan also rejected India's moratorium on the Indian Water Treaty and said any move to stop the water flow would be considered an “act of war.”

On Friday, May 2, 2025, Dr. Jaishankar also spoke with Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis and discussed the Pahalgam attack.

“Thanks to him for his support and solidarity. We agree to zero tolerance for terrorism,” the minister said in a social media post.
