Pahalgam terrorist attack: In Jamu and Pahalgam in Kashmir, terrorists opened fire on tourists and killed 27 people, the deadliest attack since the 2019 Pulwama strike. The dead included two foreigners from the UAE and Nepal – and two locals. One officer from the Intelligence Agency and one of the other officers from the Indian Navy was the deceased. Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi briefly terminated his trip to Saudi Arabia, the Union’s interior minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting to determine the situation and counter-terrorism operations.
Tourists gathered in Baisaran come from several states. Among the dead were tourists from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The world leaders expressed their condolences, while saying they stood with India at this moment. U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President Judd Vance condemned the attack.
“The news from Kashmir is deeply disturbing. The U.S. stance on India’s opposition to terrorism. We pray for the souls of the lost and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi and India’s incredible people have full support and deepest sympathy. Our hearts are with you all,” Trump said.
“Usha and I express our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam in India. We have overcome us in the beauty of this country and its people over the past few days. Our thoughts and prayers are with them when they mourn this terrorist attack.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni tweeted, “I feel very sad about the terrorist attacks in India today, which has caused many victims. Italy expresses closeness to affected families, injuries, government and all Indian people.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tragic consequences of the terrorist attacks in Pahargham, Jamu and Kashmir. He said: “…I want to reaffirm our commitment to further work with Indian partners to fight terrorism in all forms and manifestations…”
The United Arab Emirates strongly condemns the terrorist attacks. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) confirmed in a statement that the UAE’s strong condemnation of these crimes and its permanent refusal to all forms of violence and terrorism aims to undermine security and stability in violation of international law. The ministry expressed sincere condolences and sympathy for the Indian government and people, and its desire to recover quickly to the families of the victims of this heinous attack and to all injured people.
The Iranian Embassy in India said: “The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in the city of Pahargam, Chamu and Kashmir, which has resulted in the death and harm of many innocent people. Our fanatical attitude towards India extends a good attitude. Injured.”
French Ambassador to India Thierry Mathou also condemned the attack. “The strong condemnation of the mean attacks in Jamu and Kashmir. My idea is to be with the victims and their families. France is united with India in its fight against terrorism.”
Ukraine’s embassy in India said: “Ukraine is deeply concerned about the attacks of tourists in Pahalgam. We endure the loss of life suffered by terrorism every day and firmly condemn its various forms of terrorism. When innocent people are murdered, it creates unbearable pain.
