Assam police destroyed fake SIM rackets suspected of having links to Pakistan and arrested seven people from the northeast, north and south of the country.

The arrest was arrested on tips from the Gajraj Corps, headquartered in Assam, which used deceptively obtained SIM cards for cybercrime and anti-ethnic activities. The state police registered a case in its Task Force (STF) case on May 14 and launched an investigation into a numbered operation Ghost Sim.

Five arrested men are from Rajasthan. While Sadik (47), Arif Khan (20) and Sajid (21) were arrested in the Alwar and Bharatpur areas, while Akeek (25) was arrested at Guwahati Airport and Arsad Khan (34).

The remaining two are from the Dhubri district in the western state of Assam. Jakariya Ahmad (24) was arrested from Bilasipara in the region, while Mofijul Islam (19) was arrested from Sangareddy area in telangana.

“Our special departments and STF work with the advice provided by military intelligence and our colleagues in Rajasthan and Telangana helped us catch those involved in the racket,” Assam Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh told the news reporter on Saturday.

In addition to capturing 948 ghost SIM cards and other technical equipment, police also picked up 14 people from different places in the Dhubri district. “We tried to find out if they were involved in this racket or were cheated [by the cyber criminals],” said Mr. Singh.

During the investigation, police found that WhatsApp accounts were created by using these fraudulent SIM cards with OTPs to route their activations to Pakistan.

Mr Singh said further investigations could reveal the conspiracy behind Ghost Sim Scont. He added that the fraudulent SIM cards seized earlier were used to report movements of Indian troops.

Police said the SIM card was activated using fake files and divided across states to cover up criminal activity and facilitate untrackable digital operations.

“We are with [telecom] “Service providers can find out how these people circumvent the procedures for obtaining and operating fake SIM cards,” Singh said.
