Several Indian defense websites have been affected by Pakistan in a major cyberattack after the terrorist attack that sparked tensions among neighboring countries. Sensitive information about defense personnel, including their login certificates, was reportedly damaged in a large-scale attack.
The PAK Group behind the attack
An account called Pakistan Cyber Force X says hackers can access sensitive data from military engineer services and the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defense Research and Analysis. The group also attempts to deface the website of the Alliance Ministry of Defense’s Armored Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL). The AVNL website has been thoroughly reviewed offline to assess the potential damage of hacker bids.
Cyberspace is under monitoring
The page picture of the AVNL website was subsequently posted by X handles detained in India. The hackers apparently carried a list of names of Indian military personnel in another post, “Your security is a fantasy. They further claimed that 10 GB of data were accessed on the Manohar Parrikar Defense Research and Analysis website, with 1,600 users.
Media reports say government cybersecurity experts are currently monitoring the cyberspace to identify any other hacker attempts, while measures are being made to strengthen security infrastructure for further bids.
Previous hackers bid
A few days after several Army public schools in Kashmir, the Army Welfare Housing Organization database and the Indian Air Force Resettlement Organization portal, new hacker attempts happened for several days.
India – Pakistan tensions
Tensions between India and Pakistan have been intensifying since the late Pahalgam attacks until April, when terrorists opened fire on tourists and killed more than a dozen people. The attack caused a diplomatic crisis between the two countries as New Delhi accused Pakistani authorities of supporting terrorists.
