Pakistan criticizes defense minister Rajnath Singh’s comments on his nuclear arsenal

Pakistan criticized Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks on his nuclear arsenal on Thursday, saying it showed his “pure ignorance” about the mandate and responsibility of the United Nations professional bodies. Singh landed on Thursday shortly after her first trip to Chamu and Kashmir in Srinagar since Operation Singh. Singh said on Thursday that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be brought under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) because they are not safe in such a rogue country.

Singh’s comments came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India will not tolerate Pakistan’s “nuclear blackmail” and will severely punish cross-border terrorism.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Shafqat Ali Khan said Thursday that the “irresponsible remarks reveal a serious insecurity and frustration of his effective defense” toward Pakistan.
“Pakistan’s conventional capacity is sufficient to stop India without the self-imposed ‘nuclear blackmail’ that New Delhi suffered,” Khan said.

“The comments of the Indian Minister of Defense also demonstrated his ignorance of the mandate and responsibility of the IAEA, such as the United Nations professional bodies,” the spokesperson said.
