Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was proposed by Dr BR Ambedkar Mahamanch on Monday for implementing the Unified Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand.

The event was held on the 135th anniversary of the constitutional maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at Bhel Ground in Haridwar and saw thousands of people involved.

In his speech, Dhami described Ambedkar as a visionary and said he believed that true equality could not be possible in society until every citizen of the country gained equal rights.

“This belief inspired him to include revolutionary concepts such as unified civil law in the Constitution,” he said.

He added that the honor given to him was not a person, but rather the ideology that has long raised the voice of justice and equality in Indian society.

Mr Dami criticized the former government for neglecting Dr Ambedkar, saying his ideas were ignored in the past, but today India is moving towards realizing its dreams.

“It’s a new India – not only respecting its legacy, but setting new standards by making bold decisions,” he said.

Mr. Dami expressed his gratitude to the people for their love and words, adding that the crowds gathered in Haridwar were the voice of the public, who said they believed in the decision of the Chief Minister. He attributed this historic decision to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his strong political will.

“Uttarakhand once again demonstrates the way to the country – equality is no longer written in books, but now it has taken the form of law and is implementing the ground. It is not just the implementation of the law; it is a decisive step towards a new India,” he said.

The Chief Minister also announced the construction of Baba Saheb Samrasata Sthal in Haridwar to educate future generations about the lives and history of social reformers along with the Indian Constitution.

According to the SCP/TSP program run by the Ministry of Social Welfare, the multi-functional building will be built in the main areas of residence under the name of renowned social reformers in these communities. In addition, special awareness programs will be organized in schools and universities through the scheduled caste committee to inform the younger generation about welfare programs and rights related to the scheduled community.
