Pakistan says it has launched a military offensive against India

Islamabad/New Delhi: Pakistan said it launched a military operation against India earlier on Saturday, targeting multiple foundations, including missile storage sites in northern India as neighbors expanded their worst battles over nearly three decades.

Pakistan said that before its offensive India fired in three airs, including an air base near the capital Islamabad, but Pakistan’s air defense intercepted most.

The two countries have been in long-term controversy in Kashmir since India launched a strike in Pakistan on Wednesday with a “terrorist infrastructure”. Pakistan vowed to retaliate.

The Pakistani military said the Prime Minister convened a meeting of the State Command, a top agency for civilian and military officials, which oversees the decisions of its nuclear arsenal.

Reuters Witnesses said explosions were reported in Srinagar and Jamu in India, where an alarm sounded.

The explosion was also heard in Lahore, eastern Pakistan and Peshawar, the north-west city, as the threat of fighting was spreading.

At least 48 people have been killed since Wednesday, according to casualties on both sides of the border.
