Teachers' institutions urge school education departments to issue school reorganization

Members of the Naval Teachers Association (NTA) insist that the school education ministry should be restructured by the school education ministry only after a formal government order (GO) is issued to replace the existing GO 117.

The association's president K. Harikrishna and Secretary-General M. Srinivasa Rao said in a statement that the department has issued only one memorandum and proposed significant IT-based changes.

They also pointed out that while schools in the state provide teaching mediums in Odia, Kannada, Tamil and Urdu, students were denied the Telugu medium and asked the Minister of Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh to call for meetings with the Teachers Union to discuss these key issues before making the final appeal.

Speaking of the controversial GO 117, they said it faces strong opposition from teachers and other stakeholders. Although reports that appeared in a section of the media claimed that the action had been withdrawn and that the school education authorities had proposed the establishment of nine classes of schools, the effect has not been released.

They said there were reports that officials proposed to cancel high school and primary schools, warning that it would have a negative impact on girls’ education and could encourage parents to choose child marriage. They say that without topical teacher allocation, teachers, especially in high school, face work overload, and the size of the class violates the Education Rights Act.

They said the memorandum also appears to have overlooked previous feedback from various teacher associations.
