Pakistan should take similar action: Turkey: HP Lop Jairam Thakur

Jairam Thakur, the leader of the opposition in Himaal Pradesh, supported the needs of apple growers in the state that banned Turkey’s imports of apples and said action should also be taken against Pakistan.

“Pakistanis are asked to leave… Turkey should take similar actions. Especially when earthquakes occur there, especially when earthquakes occur there. This country acts like this with us during times of crisis, which is very sad. We have helped Turkey in various ways. Then, imports of Turkish apples to India should be stopped altogether…” Thakur told Ani.

On May 15, young apple growers in Himaal Pradesh demanded an immediate ban on importing apples from Turkey, Iran, Iraq and China.
They called on the central government to impose a full ban on 100% import tariffs on about 44 foreign countries, especially Turkey, or at least increase import tariffs above 100%.

Talk to Ani Bramta of Ani, a young apple grower in Jubbal who has an MBA and formerly a software engineer, said: “This is the right time to stop Turkish apples from entering India. After working in the corporate world, I turned to five years of apple farming five years ago. AI may help, but here I hope more young people are back in farming.”

Ankit Bramta also said that India alone imported about 8 million boxes of apples from Türkiye, with the total trade volume including apple fruit crops being about $10 billion. Iran has similar numbers, especially between October and April, which clashes with our high-altitude apple harvest. India needs about 150 million apple boxes per year, while we have three states, Jamu and Kashmir, Himaal and Uttarakhand, producing 120 million. The remaining 30 million imports are imported, 60% of which come from Iran and Turkey, and Iran and Turkey have 30% of businesses, if 30% of Turkey’s companies will rise in India’s stock price, if it is benefited at home, if it is to make money, if it is to make money. Imports are down, and companies will buy more from us, improve infrastructure and pass on profits to American farmers. He added. Farmers also argue that such imports undermine Indian apple farmers, especially as domestic agricultural products struggle to compete with the flood of cheap foreign fruits in India.

Getting momentum on the Apple belt in Shimla District is supported by educated young people who leave their business careers to resume agriculture.
