Pakistan team will not go to India to participate in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup

Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Council (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Saturday that their women’s team will not travel to India to compete in the ICC ODI World Cup and compete in neutral venues after the hybrid model accepted earlier this year. When Pakistan recently hosted the ICC Championship Trophy, BCCI refused to send the Indian team to the border due to diplomatic tensions between the two countries and held a match in Dubai.

The agreed hybrid model allows both India and Pakistan to compete in a neutral venue in the two countries in the ICC event.

He said: “Just like India did not play in Pakistan in the championship trophy and was allowed to play in neutral venues, we will play in the game, whether it is decided. When an agreement is reached, it must be followed.”
The head of the PCB said that India and the International Criminal Court are the hosts of the tournament to decide on neutral venues.

India will host the competition from September 29 to October 26, with Australia as the defending champion.

Naqvi also expressed satisfaction with the impressive way Pakistan Women’s team won the World Cup. Pakistan eventually won all five matches in the qualifiers held in Lahore. They defeated Ireland, Scotland, West Indies, Thailand and Bangladesh, qualifying them to smoothly participate in hosting major rounds in India, England, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. “The team showed how to get the advantage of going home and playing like a collective unit. I’m glad the women’s cricket is doing well now,” he said.

He added that the PCB will certainly announce a special reward for the women’s team’s outstanding performance.

Naqvi also said he was pleased that PCB successfully hosted another ICC event after the championship trophy.
