Will Sanju Samson play against the Mumbai Indians today? Head coach Rahul Dravid makes a major update

Sanju started out as an expert batsman under the captain of Parag before leading the team to three matches before being injured in a super loss in the Delhi capital. He resigned indefinitely since then.
Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that the team is carefully recovering captain and star batsman Sanju Samson, who is currently being eliminated for side labor. Dravid stressed the importance of carefully managing Samson’s injuries at a press conference to prevent any further complications.
The senator was injured in a high-intensity match against the Delhi capital, where he was forced to retire. As a result, he missed the final three matches against Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challenger Bangalore and a key victory against Gujarat Giants. Despite breaking their five-game winning streak in a recent game against GT, Dravid reiterated in a recent interaction with the Star Sports News Room that the team prioritized Samson’s health and well-being by taking additional precautions before returning to the court.
Dravid said: “Sanju recovers well, but we just need to take it every day.
He added: “We are monitoring it every day and we will see how it is pulled up. Every day we will receive reports of whether he is available so that we will take it every day to see how he is in, but he is very popular.”
The pivotal victory was achieved thanks to the historic performance of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi who played a crucial role in guiding RR to defeat a strong Gujarat Titans team. With Riyan Parag as team leader for the contestants absent, RR is now preparing for a key match against the Indians inside Mumbai.
RR’s chance to enter the playoffs is to be hung by threads. Despite the win against GT, they had to win all the remaining races in IPL 2025 to keep running. This high-pressure situation only increases expectations around Samson’s potential comeback, although the team is focused on ensuring his long-term fitness.
The 30-year-old Samson has had inconsistent existence throughout the season. Initially, playing a professional batsman in the first three games of Captain Riyan Parag, he later returned to the team for three games before being injured in a super loss in the Delhi capital, forcing him to resign indefinitely.
While the return of the Mumbai Indians may be unlikely, coach Dravid has not ruled out the senator’s return throughout the season, noting that the team will evaluate his condition in a matching manner.
