Pakistani ally Azerbaijan increases flights and trade with India

New Delhi: Pakistan’s traditional ally Azerbaijan is also trying to expand interpersonal relationships with India by launching Ahmedabad-Bakku flights from July, in addition to measures to build confidence between India and the Soviet Republic.According to people familiar with the matter, Azal, a national airline in Azerbaijan, will fly directly from Baku to Ahmedabad from July 4. They said flights will run four times a week — Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday — they said. The development follows Azerbaijan’s high heels (one of the few landlocked countries that operate a cargo ship on high seas) sending a cargo ship to transport soda to the South Indian port.
Azerbaijan’s Kassia Shipping Company’s “Hohali” operates in the Indian Ocean region, which is the first time that soda ash is shipped to the ports of Kattupalli and Kandla. Azal is currently operating regular flights to Mumbai and New Delhi. Flights on the Mumbai-Baku route run on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. From June 16, flights on this route are scheduled every day. Flights from Baku to New Delhi are operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The surge in Indian tourists visiting Azerbaijan so far, with the largest number of tourists in 2024 so far.
Last month, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev did not address Kashmir issues at a joint press conference when Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Baku. In addition, after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Azerbaijani government sent a message of condolences to the Indian government.

Azerbaijan remains an investment by Indian oil companies, and during the Energy Week held in India, a tripartite agreement was signed to explore strategic opportunities in the energy sector.
