Those who support WAQF (Amendment)
On the other hand, six state governments – Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Assam relocated the Supreme Court, which underlined the legal consequences if subjected to the WAQF Act. They agree with the WAQF Amendment.
What did Asaduddin Owaisi say?
Daya Singh said in his petition: “The Hindu and Sikh Religious Trusts enjoy relatively autonomous legal status, but the Amendment to the WAQF Act has too much amendment to increase government oversight of WAQF affairs. This disparate treatment lacks constitutional grounds and violates Article 14.” Aimim leader Asaduddin Owaisi noted that the latest law abolishes the protection given to WAQF. He also said the bill was discriminatory because it reduced protection of WAQF property while retaining it to other religions.
