Parking in Manipur to commemorate two years of race clash hit

The closure was called in various groups on Saturday (May 3, 2025) to commemorate the two-year conflicts of the Manipur tribe affected normal life in the Impal Valley and Kuki-dominated mountainous areas of Manipur controlled by Maitei.

The Meitei Group Manipur Integrity Committee (COCOMI) was closed in the valley area, while the Zomi Student Federation (ZSF) and Kuki Student Organization (KSO) implemented the closure in the mountains.

On this day of 2023, ethnic conflict broke out, with more than 260 people killed, 1,500 injured and more than 70,000 displaced, according to officials.

The market was closed, public vehicles were still on the road, and private offices were closed across the state. I saw some private cars on the road in the morning.

Schools, colleges and other institutions were also closed.

Security forces are also deployed in critical locations to prevent any unnecessary activities, officials said.

Cocomi will hold the “Manipur People's Convention” at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal. It urges people to attend public meetings in large quantities.

The candlelight parade will also be held in the evening to pay tribute to those who died of violence.

Kuki communities in the mountainous areas of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi are observing the “Day of Separation” and demanding a separate territory.

A plan will be held at the Memorial Wall, which was built at 11 a.m. in the town of Chukandpur to commemorate those who died in ethnic violence. Another plan is scheduled for the burial site of Sehken, with some of the Kuki people who died in the violence buried from 2 p.m.
